Construcción local de indicadores de sustentabilidad regional. Un estudio de caso en el semidesierto del noreste de México

Resumen

Tras un estudio de indicadores de sustentabilidad en el ejido San José de la Joya, en la región rural ixtlera del semidesierto de Coahuila, se analizó información e indicadores construidos con base en la percepción, acción y participación de los pobladores locales, según un programa de ordenamiento ecológico comunitario participativo. Los resultados e indicadores corresponden a tres sistemas regionales: el ecológico (diversificación productiva); el productivo (rendimiento e independencia de insumos externos) y el socioeconómico (acceso a servicios, diversificación de empleo y calidad de vida). Se concluye que la generación de alternativas agropecuarias productivas, el ordenamiento ecológico del territorio, la planeación y administración del progreso local, así como las acciones que transiten hacia un modelo de desarrollo sustentable en la región ixtlera implican por fuerza reducir la vulnerabilidad y potenciar la diversificación de actividades económicas que generen empleo, ingreso y mejoren la calidad de vida para sus habitantes, y puedan articularse a los procesos de urbanización e industrialización del semidesierto del noreste de México.
