Abstract
The classic bibliography in the field has established a positive relation between educational level and political participation. This article analyzes the political participation of Mexican university students. The data was collected among students of four bachelor's degree programs-Economics, Physics, Animal Production and Sociology-at four public universities- Universidad de Sonora, Universidad Autónoma de Chiapas, Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, and Universidad Veracruzana- during the latter half of the first opposition-party government (2000-2006). The findings report low levels of participation, with passive and apolitical participation predominating. These findings are similar to those reported by other empirical studies on political participation in Mexico.
